                                                    How do I get there?

                                                    Mingus Mountain Camp is located off of Highway 89-A between Prescott Valley and Jerome.

                                                    The Camp is on US Forest Service Road # 104, the start of which is between mile markers 336 and 337 on 89-A. (There is also a Forest Service Campground at the end of the road.)

                                                    What should I pack?

                                                    Here are some common items that you should pack for your experience at Mingus Mountain Camp & Retreat Center:
                                                    • Towel, Washcloth & personal toiletries
                                                    • Pillow
                                                    • Sleeping bag, or blankets & sheets
                                                    • For extra comfort bring an extra blanket to use as mattress pad
                                                    • Flashlight(s)
                                                    • Canteen or water bottles for hiking
                                                    • Sturdy Shoes (pathways are rocky). Closed-toe shoes recommended.
                                                    • Hat, Sunscreen, and Chapstick (These are important all year! It tends to be sunny and dry.)
                                                    • Warm Clothing, Jacket (even for evenings in summer)

                                                    Note: please do not bring pets, alcohol, illegal drugs, fireworks, or firearms.

                                                    What might the weather be like?

                                                    Here is a listing of seasonal average temperatures for the lows and highs at Mingus Mountain:
                                                    • Winter months: December (32 - 52), January (31-50), February (34-55)
                                                    • Spring months: March (38-60), April (45-69), May (53-77)
                                                    • Summer months: June (63-87), July (67-90), August (65-87)
                                                    • Fall months: September (61-83), October (50-72), November (39-60)

                                                    What is there to do?

                                                    There are many activities to do in the Mingus Mountain Camp and surrounding National Forest. Click here for our activities page.

                                                    What if I have special food requirements?

                                                    Chris Hill and the kitchen staff are willing to work with group leaders regarding food allergies or special requirements for persons visiting Mingus Mountain Camp, if given adequate advanced notice. Please check with your group or program leader or contact the camp manager.

                                                    Are infants and toddlers welcome?

                                                    Depending on the program you are attending, infants and toddlers may very well be welcome. Although many camp experiences have well-defined age-limits, even then some staff have brought young children. The camp staff is ready and willing to extend hospitality to children of all ages. There are baby gates in the two Retreat Cabins with stairs, and two high-chairs in the Dining Hall. Check with your group or program leader, or contact the camp manager, for more information.
